Slow Horses is everything I didn’t realize I needed in a spy drama.

Where to Watch: Apple TV+

No. of Emmy Nominations: 9

No. of Beavers: 4 out of 5

Weaver Beaver Recommendation: If you like British spy dramas with sarcasm and wit this series is for you. Stressful situation shows not your thing? Then I wouldn’t watch this. There were a few times in the series where I’ve gotten so sucked in, I completely didn’t realize time was passing.

Show Description: Slough House is an administrative purgatory for MI5 service rejects who have bungled their job but have not been sacked. Those consigned there are known as "slow horses" - a pun on "Slough House". They are expected to endure dull, paper-pushing tasks, along with occasional mental abuse from their miserable boss, Jackson Lamb, who expects them to quit out of boredom or frustration. Life in Slough House is defined by drudgery. Yet the Slow Horses somehow get involved investigating schemes endangering Britain.

MW Review

This entire review is going to be biased. Why you ask? It has a lot of the things that I love.

London-based show – check.

Witty sarcastic humor surrounded by murder and death – check.

Spy action with certain death for characters you’ve grown to love – check.

Much like Fargo, I had to watch a few seasons to get caught up to the most recent Emmy season and unlike Fargo, I was very happy about that. I think what makes this series truly unique and different from other spy dramas is that it is a show about MI5 agents who are being pushed out of the organization. When you fuck up you end up on the slow horse team. But instead of these fuck ups just sitting at their desks doing remedial tasks they are doing the dirty work and getting little to no credit for their successes but getting blasted for their fuck ups.

Wow…maybe I’m relating to this show on a visceral level with certain areas in my life (awkward face emoji) haha. But that aside I love that the main character after Gary Oldman is someone who caused a fuck up so huge that people died. Like this show has zero chill. I also loved that this season we saw Gary Oldman’s character in ACTION. I mean the season finale with the house? Brilliant work. He’s still got it. I’m also glad that Standish….

SPOILERS AHEAD

finally found out about her former boss being a traitor. I think it’s a bit dramatic for her just to quit but what do I know lol. Serious question – doesn’t it seem extremely naïve for someone to work for MI5 and think they don’t kill their own agents? Or is that just me? I would just automatically assume they do and that any colleague that died under “mysterious” circumstances automatically means we killed them. But what do I know? Anyway, what’s great about this watch is season 4 comes out VERY soon so when I’m done with my Emmy watch I can watch season 4!
